Addiction is everywhere. You see it on every corner, all races and genders, socioeconomic classes, it doesn’t really matter who or what you do. Addiction touches everyone, it is the one thing that does not discriminate, it wants us all. It is one of the most dangerous diseases known to man because it knows our deepest fears and feelings, it knows how to manipulate thoughts, values and principles. It causes distance from everyone I know, not caring about those I love, and it does all of this quietly, secretly, blaming everyone else. Sometimes I hate myself or others. Slowly it isolates.
We need to align forces and win the war. Recovery offers healing from those thoughts and feelings. Recovery offers a shift in attitude to selflessness and mindfulness. No longer ruled by unruly thinking, we are given a New Life full of hope and gratitude. We give instead of take, we are honest with those around us, we believe in something loving that can support us instead of believing only in ourselves.
Recovery from active addiction is a miracle and completely attainable, we just can’t do it alone.
